Dacorum use Big Stick to announce new recycling initiative…

Big Stick Design was asked to communicate a new recycling process to the people of Dacorum in a positive, friendly and easily understood fashion.
In discussions with the client Big Stick used a ‘model’ family as the marketing vehicle to demonstrate and extol the benefits of the new recycling process.

The public were being furnished with extra bins to make recycling easier to sort. But which would mean two extra bins (including a food waste bin) causing some space concerns from the public.
An illustrated family was discussed but in the end a ‘real family’ who lived in the area were photographed by Big Stick Photography in conjunction with the new ‘family’ of recycling bins.

“We wanted a warm, appealing campaign to engage the families of Hemel Hempstead and gain their support. “join Dacroum’s recycling family” was the message, after all it is our children who will
benefit in the future from our recycling efforts now. This wasn’t purely a conceptual campaign however, it was information based and it was important that every member of the community could
clearly understand the new additions to the recycling process and what they could expect. This meant the print had to be hard working and not creatively frivolous. The leaflets provided a break down
of exactly what went in which bin to make it crystal clear for everyones reference.”

The goal is for Dacorum to recycle 60% of all the waste collected, which means everyone has to understand and get behind the campaign. So far the feedback has been good and the Hemel Hempstead
public has responded enthusiastically and our goal is within reach. Which is great news!
